“Steenee grew to level 29! Steenee wants to learn the move Stomp… Should an old move be deleted and replaced with Stomp?”

“Hm, sure, why not?”

Steven was a pretty big fan of Pokemon. So right now, like practically every other Pokemon fan on the planet, he was currently playing the latest generation of Pokemon; Pokemon Sun and Moon, specifically Moon in Steven’s case. Thanks to Moon’s inverted day-night cycle, the moon shone down upon his Steenee as he decided which move to replace, which the sun shone brightly through his bedroom window. He’d been playing all weekend, and his team was starting to take shape.

Somehow, against all odds, Steven had managed to avoid all spoilers, with the only things he’d seen or heard of the game being the first proper trailer that showed off the starters. Seeing all the new Pokemon and characters for the first time while actually playing the game himself had been an absolutely magical experience. That to his almost non-stop playing, he’d reached the third island, and was progressing through it at a decent pace, leveling up his Pokemon as he went. Having added Stomp to his Steenee’s moveset, he quickly progressed through the rest of the text of the NPC trainer he’d just beaten. After taking the prize money, the game showed a screen that Steven hadn’t been expecting.

“What? Steenee is evolving!”

“Oh! Cool!”

Steven pressed the “A” button, eager to see what his Steenee would evolve into. He’d already seen the cheerful berry-like creature evolve into a fruit creature resembling a young girl, so he could imagine how the evolution would progress to its final stage, but he didn’t know exactly how it’d look after the evolution was complete. His Steenee was enveloped in a ball of light and spiralled up into the sky, before the background changed colour. Steven’s eyes went wide as the ball of light crash back down into the ground, revealing the new Pokemon inside it.

“Woah…” he mumbled, eyes locked to the screen. His Steenee had become a Tsareena, the regal fruit lady standing just behind the screen of his 3DS. “Hellooo new Gardevoir.”

As many Pokemon fans knew, Gardevoir was a Pokemon that was the subject of a lot of… questionable material on the internet. So much, in fact, that you couldn’t even Google Image search for the Pokemon without running into said questionable material. Steven could see the appeal of the feminine, humanoid Pokemon, he wasn’t the type to get all hot and bothered over a fictional female, especially not when that female was basically an animal in-universe. Seeing Tsareena, with its long legs and exaggerated hips, Steven had a feeling the internet had just struck upon a new PokeWaifu. Its Pokedex entry talking about “the beauty of its well-shaped legs” certainly contributed to that view.

“Heh, maybe I should get the Name Rater to rename her ‘Fruit-Waifu’.” Steven generally did nickname his Pokemon, but since he didn’t know what the final forms of these Pokemon would look like, he was waiting on nicknaming them until they evolved. He decided to hold off on that for now, though, and continued to progress down the route. His character ran through the tall grass, but was suddenly halted as a wild Pokemon attacked. As the Fearow showed up on screen, Steven realised his first mistake.

“Aw crap, I forgot to heal.” His Tsareena had been greatly damaged during its last battle as a Steenee, and that damage had carried over to its new form. He probably could have switched out and had one of his other Pokemon take care of the Fearow, but he figured he might as well just run from the battle and go back to heal at the Pokemon Center.

“You couldn’t get away!”

“Damn it.” It turned out the Fearow was fast enough to make escaping more difficult that it would have been otherwise.

“Fearow used Aerial Ace! Tsareena fainted!”

“Frickin’ Fearow.” Steven hit the run button again, and this time he managed to succeed. He ran his character back down the route, heading back to the closest Pokemon Center. He did run into a few more wild Pokemon on the way, but he chose to run from them rather than fight them. His other Pokemon could easily have taken care of it, but he didn’t want to deprive his newly evolved Tsareena of the experience, seeing as it was the lowest level member of his team.

When he got to the Pokemon Center, he immediately walked up to the counter and pressed “A” to speak to the nurse standing behind it.

“Welcome to the Pokemon Center. You’re up late! Would you like to rest your Pokemon?” Steven pressed the “A” button repeatedly, skipping past the text and selecting “Yes”. “I’ll take your Pokemon for a few seconds, then.” Steven’s character in game handed his Poke Balls to the nurse, before his team flashed up on the screen behind the nurse. And that’s where this started to turn a little strange.

“Thank you for waiting. We tried to restore you Pokemon to full health… However, something seems to have happened to your Tsareena.”

“What? What the hell?” Steven progressed through the dialogue, wondering what was going on here. Was this some sort of new game mechanic that Game Freak had implemented into Pokemon Sun and Moon?

“We will be able to save her, but we will need your help. Are you prepared to assist?”

The game presented Steven with a “Yes or No” option, as he frowned at the screen. As someone who had avoided all spoilers before release, he had no idea whether this was a new feature in the game, or whether his copy was glitched or hacked, or something along those lines. Regardless, he wasn’t about to lose the Tsareena he’d just earned, so he selected “yes”.

“Thank you for your assistance. The process will begin shortly.”

Steven progressed past the text, expecting some sort of Pokemon Center minigame, but instead, the screen remained on his trainer and the nurse, staring blankly at each other. He tried moving the circle pad and pressing A, but nothing seemed to happen. He wouldn’t have long to dwell on this, however, as something much more pressing seem caught his attention. The light coming through his window was starting to fade away, as if something was blocking out the sun. Before long, the only light in the room was coming from his 3DS.

“What the…” Steven mumbled, not entirely sure what was going on. He walked over to his window, leaving his 3DS on his desk. He could barely believe what awaited him outside. The sun had completely vanished, the moon and stars shining brightly in its place. It was as if the day had ended incredibly quickly, and now it was already night. “Woah…” Steven looked back over at the clock hanging on his wall; the hands both still pointed to the 12. Although it had been midday just moments ago, it now seemed more like midnight.

“Twelve hours difference,” Steven thought aloud, starting to put things together in his head. Although most people wouldn’t make the connection, Steven realised that because of Pokemon Moon’s altered day-night cycle, it had been midnight in his game when it suddenly froze in the Pokemon Center. Did his game have something to do with the sudden nightfall? Deciding to investigate, Steven walked back over to his desk, and picked his 3DS back up. The screen still displayed the inside of the Pokemon Center, with his trainer standing in front of the nurse. Nothing seemed to have changed. Before he could try moving around and interacting with the game again, though, the screen suddenly flashed a bright white, blinding Steven momentarily as he fell backwards, dropping his 3DS.

When his vision returned to him, Steven immediately noticed something was off. Namely, his clothes were missing. “What the hell?” he said, raising his voice a bit more than before. He had managed to remain calm during the previous phenomena, but now it was starting to directly affect him, and it was definitely starting to freak him out. He stood back up, leaving his 3DS on the ground for now, and noticed that his clothes weren’t the only thing that was missing. The door to his room had vanished, leaving a blank spot on his wall, and the window no longer had any way of being opened, sealing Steven inside the room. Everything also seemed to look bigger, for some reason.

In reality, the room was the same size it had always been. The difference was that during the flash, Steven had gotten shorter, now standing at around four feet tall, but he hadn’t noticed yet. For the time being, Steven figured he should get some clothes before he investigated any further. All these weird occurrences were freaking him out for sure, but he didn’t want to end up running into someone and being stark naked. Thankfully, his wardrobe didn’t seem to have disappeared like his door had.

He didn’t get a chance to actually open the wardrobe, though. The moment Steven got close to it, pain suddenly coursed through his body, causing him to collapse to the floor. He clutched his sides, screaming. His entire body felt like it was on fire. As he squirmed on the floor, his body began to reform. His bones softened, becoming more flexible as they turned into something akin to a plant’s stalk. His flesh became soft and squishy, his skin bleaching white and losing any and all hair on it. Extra layers of skin grew over certain areas, tougher and more rigid than his current pale skin. A softer pink layer grew over his torso, thighs, and eyelids, which a more rigid purple layer coated his arms and legs. His face and pelvis were left without any extra layer, the squishy white flesh on display for all to see. His internal organs restructured themselves, becoming something less like the organs of an animal, and more like the parts of a plant.

With Steven’s biological makeup now restructured, the pain began to subside, and he was able to catch his breath after screaming so much. He slowly sat up, feeling all the different sensations his new body was giving him.

“What… what am I?” he said, not recognising his purple and white colour scheme, or his plant-like structure. Afraid, but still somewhat curious, Steven prodded the unprotected white flesh of his hips, feeling how squishy and soft his new body was. It pushed inward, like one would expect a piece of fruit to after being squeezed, but instead of simply bruising and remaining compressed, it pushed back out like the flesh of a living being.

“Weird…” Steven did his best to remain calm, considering he’d just been turned into some kind of plant monster. He slowly stood up, thankful his sense of balance hadn’t been effected by the changes to his body. However, whatever was going on wasn’t done yet. His suddenly found it difficult to breath, as his chest felt like it was being constricted. “What… what’s… it’s not done?”

Steven clutched at his chest, trying to catch his breath again, when all of a sudden, the pressure released all at once. Of course, this was merely a side effect of the compression reaching its completion, with his torso from his neck to his waist being crushed inwards to be much thinner. “Woah… I-” Steven was unable to say anything else as he was struck by a sudden coughing fit. As he coughed, his neck seemed to vanish inside his torso, and in its place, the pink skin coating his chest grew up like a frilly collar, covering up his mouth. His vocal chords were restructured, becoming much higher pitched, and incapable of making the noises required for human speech.

“Why me?!” Steven shouted as his coughing fit ended. Or at least, that’s what he tried to say. It ended up sounding more like “Tsar ree?!” He immediately clamped his hands over his mouth, pushing the pink frills against his soft, white skin. His eyes went wide after hearing the noises that came out of his mouth. Between the fruity composition of his body and the high-pitched noises, Steven was starting to piece together was he was turning into; he was becoming a Tsareena. Once he realised that, he was able even more connections, and felt he might have realised what caused this; his game. It had somehow caused all of this. The sudden nightfall, his transformation, all of it started when he agreed to help the nurse at the Pokemon Center with reviving his Tsareena.

Now that he’d figured out the source, Steven thought he might be able to find a way to stop it. He took a step towards where he had left his 3DS on the floor, but was immediately stopped as the pain returned. His chest felt like it was being constricted again, but this time there was also pain in his legs. “[Just let it be over quickly…]” Steven mumbled in the odd Pokemon language he was forced to speak in, wanting the pain to stop so he could go grab his 3DS and figure out how to stop this.

It seemed whatever was doing this to him was listening, as mere moments after saying that, his torso crunched down once again, vertically this time, and his legs grew longer to compensate for the lost height. Like the frills on his neck, the purple skin on his legs peeled off his thighs, creating the illusion that he was wearing boots or stockings, or something similar. His legs reshaped, taking on a more feminine appearance as his calves slimmed down, and mass gathered in his thighs. Finally, his feet crunched up, their mass vanishing inside his body, leaving nothing but pointed tips at the end of his legs. Steven wobbled a bit, trying to get used to the fact that he no longer had feet. He held his arms out to try and balance himself, but soon they joined in the transformation as well. They became incredibly thin, and his fingers merged together, leaving his hands as a pair of rounded nubs.

As Steven finally regained his balance, he was able to see that everywhere that had been covered by his pink and purple skin had been transformed, but for the moment, his exposed fruity flesh was untouched. He wasn’t about to wait around for them to be changed, and tried to walk over to where his 3DS was. Emphasis on “tried”, as he almost fell flat on his face the moment he took a step, still not used to having no feet. Before he could try again, he began to feel strange again. Not pain this time, but rather a sort of bubbling feeling in his pelvis. “[Please, no…]” Steven whimpered, knowing where this was going.

The transforming force was not so merciful this time. The flesh of Steven’s pelvis seemed to explode outwards, giving him a comically large pair of girlish hips. He almost fell backwards as his rear inflated, giving him a large butt to match his hips. Even the flesh at the front expanded, although not by as much. As it expanded, though, Steven felt his genitals, which had until now remained intact, get sucked up inside the fruity mass. No evidence of any genitals was left on the surface, but several small seeds were popping into existence inside the flesh of his pelvis, which seemed to be segmenting itself like the inside of a mandarin. Although the seeds inside him that probably made up his reproductive system weren’t anything human, or anything like any species of animal he’d ever known, Steven knew his Tsareena was a female, and he probably was one too now.

Steven took another wobbly step, his new hips throwing off his balance even more. Considering how quickly the transformation had progressed, he had a feeling he wouldn’t reach his 3DS before it finally reached the one part that was still untouched; his head. That said, he wasn’t about to give up. He took another small step forward, and then another. He was surprised that he hadn’t been hit by another wave of pain yet, but unbeknownst to him, every little step was reshaping his head just a bit. It inflated, becoming a round, white ball atop his torso. His nose sunk back into his face, but he could still smell somehow. His lips thinned, making his mouth even harder to spot behind the frills of his neck. His eyes grew larger, and his irises turned the same purple as his legs. His eyelashes grew longer and harder, becoming the same purple material as his skin. These longer lashes made his eyelids heavier, and Steven felt more comfortable only having his eyes half open. The pink skin that had grown on his eyelids was now exposed, making it looks as if he was wearing eyeshadow.

Barely even aware that his head had finished reforming, Steven now stood in front of his 3DS, the screen still showing the inside of the Pokemon Center. As he tried to bend down and pick it up, though, he was suddenly pulled backwards by his hair, the final stage of the transformation kicking in. His hair clumped into four distinct masses, each taking becoming something akin to a leaf, although thicker and more sturdy. The two leaves at the sides of his head, and the one at the back, all began to grow incredibly quickly, yellow spots appearing on them as they went. When they finally stopped, Steven’s green leafy hair reached all the way down to the middle of his calves. The leaf at the front grew too, although not by as much, and swooped off to the right of his face, giving him a fringe that slightly covered his right eye, and hung off his head by a fair amount. Finally, a small purple bulb grew out of the top of his head, just off to the left a bit. When it opened, revealing itself to be yellow inside, Steven knew the transformation was done.

He let out a sigh, as he looked over the feminine, fruit-like body he’d been given. “[So much for stopping it,]” he said, before his eyes drifted back to his 3DS, still lying on the floor in front of him. “[But maybe I can reverse it.]” He slowly bent down, doing his best not to fall. Of course, considering how unfamiliar everything about his body was, his best wasn’t good enough, and he ended up just sitting on the floor, not liking that it reminded him of how large his rear was now. He slid the 3DS closer to himself with his fingerless hands, hoping he might some way of turning himself back. To his surprise, the screen had actually changed since he last saw it. Specifically, the nurse’s dialogue was different.

“Thank you for your assistance. Your Tsareena has made a full recovery.”

It took Steven a moment to realise what she meant. He hadn’t just turned into any old Tsareena, he’d become his own Pokemon. The Pokemon he caught as a Bounsweet, and raised up until it evolved. Apparently when it got injured in battle, the only way to revive it was for him to become it. After everything that had happened, Steven assumed his game was cursed or haunted or something, but he still found it odd that of everything that could have happened, it was this. He couldn’t help but wonder if this could all have been prevented if he’d simply headed back to the Pokemon Center to heal before going back into the grass and getting attacked by a Fearow.

Steven wasn’t sure what to do now. He figured the logical thing to do would be to progress the dialogue, so he pressed the A button. He immediately regretted it, however, as his 3DS’s screens began to shine a bright light again, blinding him for a moment. Although he couldn’t see, he could feel that things around him were changing. The floor he was sitting on began to feel more like pavement than wood, and a cool, evening breeze swept across his skin.

When the light finally faded, Steven found he was outside, sitting on the sidewalk. He wasn’t in the city he lived in, but the place looked somewhat familiar. He just couldn’t place it. Standing in front of him was a boy that looked like… him? It seemed to be a younger version of himself, or at least, himself before he turned into a Tsareena.

Before he could say anything, the boy pulled him into a hug. “I’m so glad you’re okay,” the boy said. “I was so worried when the nurse said something had happened to you.” Now Steven understood what was going on. This boy was his character in the game, the trainer of the Tsareena he now was. Which meant he was in the game! Looking around again, he realised he was in Malie City, the placed he’d been in when he tried to heal Tsareena at the Pokemon Center.

His trainer let go of him, a guilty look in his eyes. “I’m sorry I let that happen to you,” he said. Steven suddenly felt really guilty, knowing it was really his fault that Tsareena got injured, although he had no way of knowing that his game wasn’t normal. His trainer reached up to touch his leafy fringe, stroking it as one would a cat. For some reason, that seemed to calm Steven down a lot. All the stress and anxiety from being transformed into a Pokemon and thrust into the world of a videogame seemed to just wash away as he let his trainer pet him.

“I promise I’ll be more careful in the future. I wouldn’t want that to happen to you again.” Steven was barely even listening at this point, lost in his own little world. His trainer reached into his bag and pulled out a colourfully patterned bean, and held it up to where Steven’s mouth was hidden. Under normal circumstances, he would have hated being fed like a baby, but right now, it just felt right. He reached up to grab the bean with his own hands, to make sure it didn’t drop while he ate. Within just a few bites, the bean was gone, and Steven felt overjoyed. He supposed this must be what it was like when a Pokemon’s affection went up. Something told him this might not be so bad. He loved Pokemon, and he was getting to experience its world first hand, even if it did mean he had to be a Pokemon himself. He had a caring trainer to look after him too, how bad could it really be?

“You know, I’ve been trying to think of a nickname for you. What do you think of ‘Fruit-Waifu’?”

“[What!?]” That brought Steven back to reality. He had been joking when he came up with that name. He sincerely hoped his trainer wasn’t planning on actually calling him that.

“Okay, okay,” his trainer said in between chuckles. “I can see you don’t like it. I’ll come up with something else.” He pulled a Poke Ball out of his pocket, and pointed it towards Steven. “Now, let’s go. We’ve still got to reach the next trial.”

Steven nodded. He supposed he didn’t really have a choice in the matter, but he figured he should give some sort of signal that he was willing to come along for the ride. He figured he’d better get used to his new body pretty quickly; Tsareena was the lowest-level member of his team before all this happened, so he had a feeling he’d be seeing a lot of battles in the coming future. Still he decided to count himself lucky that he was about to see something no trainer, in either the real world or the Pokemon world, had ever seen before; the inside of a Poke Ball.

There was a flash of light, and Steven was gone. The boy walked off towards the next route, wondering what he should name his Tsareena.

Yaaay Pokemon SuMo.

Describing the anatomy of fictional creatures is always a difficult endeavor. When that fictional creature happens to be based on a plant, things get really complicated. I kinda danced around some of the more difficult areas like internal organs, but I think I did an alright job of figuring out out Tsareena works as a living thing.

I was working on another Pokemon SuMo TF, based on one of the human characters instead of the Pokemon, but I highly doubt I'll have that done before I leave on vacation, and no longer have internet. So, maybe you'll see it when I get back, maybe you won't. Depends on whether I decide to actually finish the story or just throw it in the trash.

As always, enjoy~!

Honestly if this story didn’t include the part where he was transported into the game, it would have been perfect.
